Every year, industry data gives us a clearer picture of what is really happening behind the scenes in real estate. The 2025 National Association of Realtors numbers are in, and they tell an important story about experience, activity, and why choosing the right agent truly matters.
Out of approximately 1.3 million licensed agents nationwide, 71.1 percent closed zero transactions in 2025. That means the majority of agents did not help a single buyer or seller through a full transaction last year.
When you look a little closer, the gap becomes even clearer. Most agents who did close deals completed fewer than five transactions all year. Only a very small percentage handled ten, twenty, or more deals. Even fewer navigated higher volume, complex negotiations, pricing shifts, and changing buyer behavior in a challenging market.
This is not about judging. It is about understanding.
Why Experience Matters in Today’s Market
Real estate is not static. Markets shift. Interest rates change. Buyer confidence moves. Seller expectations evolve. In a year like 2025, experience was not optional. It was essential.
Agents who were actively working in the market had to pivot quickly, adjust pricing strategies, navigate inspection negotiations, and guide clients through uncertainty with clarity and confidence. That kind of experience only comes from being in it consistently.
Numbers do not tell the whole story, but they do reveal patterns. They show who is actively practicing real estate and who may not be fully immersed in the day to day realities of the market.
What This Means for Buyers and Sellers
If you are buying, you want someone who understands current competition, knows how to structure a strong offer, and can spot potential issues before they become problems.
If you are selling, you want someone who knows how to price strategically, market effectively, and negotiate with confidence when the stakes are high.
Choosing the right agent is really about choosing guidance. It is about working with someone who has navigated uncertainty before and knows how to create solutions, not guesswork.
